Bi-Annual Civil Society Briefing 2017

Opening remarks by Mr. Michael Møller, United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

As the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals is on the agenda of every actor in Geneva, I am pleased to let you know that the SDG Lab in my Office is now fully functioning. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the purpose of the Lab, it is a new unit within my Office focused on supporting actors in Geneva dedicated to delivering the 2030 Agenda. The SDG Lab does this through convening and connecting, creating avenues for knowledge exchange, showing and amplifying best practices, and fostering innovation and collaboration.

Sharing Heritage Across Europe - 10.10.2017

World Humanitarian Day - 21.8.2017

This year, the Geneva World Humanitarian Day commemoration is organized in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).  It will include a panel discussion on “Violence against health care and its implications for affected populations, humanitarian workers and aid”, followed by an award ceremony organized by the Sergio Vieira de Mello Foundation.

World Environment Day - June 6th 2017

The United Nations, aware that the protection and improvement of the human environment is a major issue, which affects the well-being of peoples and economic development throughout the world, designated 5 June as the World Environment Day. The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated all over the world.
