The settings are obviously borrowed from reality, but the pictures seem to send a message from a surreal world. The beholder is often taken as an accomplice by a strong view out of the picture. A British guard sluttishly saluting in front of the visibly tousled Union Jack, a little girl holding a sausage dog with a Renaissance scene behind her, a boy tenderly leaning against a life size lion - dreams are crossing humour in Otto Schwarz' world.
These paintings are full of allusions. Each of them tells a story like a little film - no wonder as the artist was a photographer and a filmmaker before discovering the canvas as his new appointment.
